Sally Protest page 3

Notes

1. Top panel: Gonterman's knack for creating works completely inaccessible to someone who does not share his interests is almost godlike. It took me some figuring to realize that MechTall was the other person talking to Jonathan (in anyone else's work this would be a given, but with David you really can't take much for granted), and that the cause for consternation here is that Sally does not know that she is a four-and-a-half-inch-tall tree squirrel. How she managed to miss out on this fact, one can only guess.

2. Top panel again: If the outside world looked like it does in this panel, I'd be screaming in shock at it too. It appears to be composed of squiggles, vague circular scribbles, bizarre lines, and what appears to be a few muffins.

3. Bottom panel: Gonterman's skill for portraying backgrounds never fails to disappoint.

4. Bottom panel again: There are probably a number of ways for a writer to convey, in dialogue, that a character is sobbing uncontrollably. This is certainly not one of them.
